Aray Releases Music Video to Single "Silhouette"
This summer has been prime time for seductive singles with the latest one, “Silhouette,” streaming on all platforms by Gainesville native Aray. Starting as an unwritten freestyle, the track captures the raw energy of embracing your dark side.
The music video, shot by Goodie of GSB Media, was inspired by the TikTok challenge of the same name. Aray infused the concept of playing with shadows and red lighting into his work in a way that captured the meaning of “Silhouette.”
“We all have a shadow to our image - a side that only comes out in the dark. I want to take that darkness and harness it. There’s something about the night that gives me power. My silhouette is like my second nature turning me into a new being. I come alive during the night time,” said Aray.
Dark energy and trauma are a driving force in Aray’s music, including his first album Froze released in 2018. Losing friends due to the system, drug abuse, and mental health instability have weighed on him heavily. All of this has contributed to the artist’s new music coming out, which has largely been created freestyle as a release of energy and feelings. In particular, one life experience changed everything in Aray’s life and music.
“One night I overdosed on shrooms and took a journey I never came back from. I ended up in the woods running from the world. I heard a voice inside my head telling me that this was it. I was dying at that very moment, and I had to make a choice. Either run away from the world and live throughout nature or die at that very moment,” said Aray. “The path I was on was leading to my own destruction. I broke down right there and started yelling at the sky to give me another chance. I wanted another chance to live and get it right. I didn’t want to spend my life in hell locked behind bars trapped inside the lifestyle I created. I felt different and my whole life changed after that point. Although I got myself out of the hole I was in and found a new life, I found myself still battling demons.”
Out of this encounter came the album Dead Boy that will be released on all platforms July 20th. In spite of so much darkness, there’s a bright side to this story.
“Dead Boy is a way for me to express myself and reconnect to the world. Maybe someone will listen and understand what I’ve been through, and they might use my insights to better themselves like I did. Someone might just feel better that they are not alone in this cold world. Dead Boy shows the inside of Aray. This is my autopsy showing how I died.
Look out for the release later this month and follow Aray on Instagram for updates. In the meantime, be sure to watch the “Silhouette” music video.
