Birmingham, AL: Love Moor Coming to the Classic City
This Friday, accomplished NeoSoul artist Love Moor will be bringing her revealing songs all the way from her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama to the Classic City. Covering themes of sexuality, nostalgia, abandonment, and self love, Love is blowing up with radio play and media coverage both nationally and internationally.
What brings her to Athens for the first time? Creature Comforts is presenting a hip hop night Friday, October 5th free to all ages from 7pm-10pm. Along with Love Moor, the lineup will include Seline Haze, DK, Hey! Zeus featuring Trav Williams, Stella Groove, and DJ Chief Rocka. We spoke with Love to find out more about this artist recently listed in NPR’s “The Austin 100,” featuring the best SXSW 2018 had to offer.
This show on Friday is at one of our popular breweries; are you a fan of beer? What’s your favorite beer if so?
I will definitely drink some beer while I’m there. I feel like the beer at that brewery might end up being my favorite.
Being known for your revealing songs, what motivates you as an artist?
*Laughs* Whatever seems to move me, that’s the best way that I can explain it. It might be a tree one day, that tree just made me feel glorious so I had to write about the tree. It’s the same thing about human beings.
Was there a first moment for you that you decided to pursue music as an artist?
To be honest, I just make music to get certain things off my chest. I never really put an expectation on it, because you know with expectations sometimes comes a bummer. And I’m not trying to be bummed about anything. I feel like it was more so putting out music and having everyone be receptive to it that kind of pushed me to say I can do this.
How long have you been making music?
Professionally, about six or seven years I’ve been actually writing and making songs.
You were listed in NPR’s 100 the best SXSW has to offer, what was your favorite SXSW moment this year?
The experience in general was something brand new for me. To be honest, it was a lot of the support given from people in Birmingham to get me to SXSW that was really thrilling for me. We did a GoFundMe, and a lot of people supported to get me and my manager there.
Was this your first time at SXSW?
Yes, this was my first time.
What do you want people to take away from your music the most?
Never necessarily the goal as far as creating it but...just to be able to express yourself freely because that’s all I’m doing.
