Dexx Releases Project "Eat Sleep F**k"

Introduced to the Athens hip hop scene as a member of The YOD, artist and producer Dexx released a new project over the weekend—the last one dropping just over four years ago. Eat Sleep F**k is available on all platforms with a lot of familiar voices (like fellow The YOD members, BYV_Trubb, Tillman, and Kxng Blanco) and some new voices (like his cousin Marcus Mitchell and Bryson Harlan).

The project opens with “Box Chevy,” a deeply introspective track about the day-to-day grind with an appropriately chill and contemplative flow. While the overall tone of the project is more melodic perspective and less pointed bars, there’s a lot of playfulness mixed into the appearances of pensive hip hop. The sound is unmistakably Dexx, but the source behind the music has grown in maturity.

“Most of my music prior to this project came from me being young and angsty, and I was my only responsibility. Now I’m a father, and I’m in my longest, most adult relationship. Everything for me isn’t just a big party, and things that were so important to me don’t really matter anymore and vice versa,” said Dexx.

Over the pandemic, finding inspiration to make music while stuck in the house was a challenge Dexx felt like many artists. However, boredom led to him creating more social media content like live beat making and skits to keep himself entertained. Dexx explained that “in an era where we consume so much constantly,” it only makes sense to expand your skills and get involved in whatever ways you can to push your music or brand.

For the first time since before COVID, Dexx is excited to announce that in addition to the new project, he will be officially performing at a show in Athens on May 21. The Summertime Sadness house party will feature music, art, food, drinks, and more at 357 S Peter Street from 3 p.m. to midnight. Other hip hop acts performing include Blesstheplaya, Mack2Tone, Molly Tu Hott, Kxng Blanco, and BYV_Trubb.

“As Dexx the artist, I’m excited to go and stand on as many tables as possible. I think performing is as exciting as making the music, if not more. I miss the people throwing energy back and forth with me. As Dexter the person, I’m extremely nervous. I have been, and I’m sure I’ll always be,” said Dexx.

Be sure to listen to Eat Sleep F**k and get familiar with the new songs ahead of the show. At just over 30 minutes, it’s an easy listen-through multiples times over—which you’ll want to do to catch everything Dexx has to say.

“On a surface level, I just want to make good music that people can play over and over again. On a deeper level, I just wanted people to understand that we’re here to do more than just eat, sleep, fuck, and go to work. We are masters of our own destiny,” said Dexx.
